‍God invented sex and the people said, “we’ll do it our way”.

God invented sex for joy, but the people abused.

God invented sex, but best not talk about it – really?

In April, sixty Family Ministries leaders from the Trans-European (TED) and Inter-European (EUD) Divisions gathered at Friedensau Adventist University in Germany to explore a biblical view of sexuality. Many tedNEWS readers expressed their desire for further details on the workshops conducted during the event, as well as the resources made accessible. Included in this edition – those reports and more.

Learning about Sex in a Shame-Free Way

In her workshop, Vanesa Pizzuto explored the repercussions of growing up in the Purity Culture movement.¹ She focused on three primary fear-based teachings within the movement: the belief that one’s body is intrinsically sinful, the belief that one’s value depends on good behaviour (e.g. virginity), and the notion that others should dictate how one’s body looks.

When families are torn apart and hearts are broken, congregations often struggle to know how to respond.

Pornography and Shame

‍In her captivating workshop, Mary-Jo Vollmer-Sandholm explored the link between pornography and shame. She highlighted its widespread presence among Christians, including church leaders, as studies have shown that over 80% of Christian households engage with pornography.
